Duties and Responsibilities

The Mentor Coordinator leads all aspects of the mentoring program, including recruiting, orientation, screening, training, matching, and monitoring volunteers. This position collaborates closely with the Executive Director to facilitate the integration of individuals into the mentoring program.

Duties
• Identifies individuals who can serve as good mentors.
• Performs recruitment, screening, training, and ongoing support to volunteer mentors.
• Supports mentee development through developing mentor matching following policies and procedures that align with Y-KNOT’s program.
• Documents and tracks mentoring hours.
• Monitors and evaluates mentor/mentee relationships.
• Continuously evaluates mentor program for improvements and growth opportunities.
• Plans and executes quarterly mentoring continuing education and support meetings.
• Evaluates mentoring program and curriculum and implement necessary changes across systems.
• Updates and maintains mentor handbook and training materials.

Education:
An associate degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field is required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Two years of direct work experience in volunteer management or industry certification may be substituted for education.

Experience:
Previous work or volunteer experience in a non-profit organization. Previous experience supervising volunteers.
Previous experience in mentor or coaching program or case management preferred.

JOB DUTIES

Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain mentors and volunteers.

Communicate with the Y-KNOT INC. team to identify available opportunities and needs for non-mentor volunteers.

Build and sustain relationships with community organizations, schools, companies, and other groups to increase member and mentor participation.

Develop and maintain mentor training materials and ensure mentors are adequately prepared to participate.

Develop and maintain orientation materials for youth members and their families in coordination with the program team.

Collaborate with the program team to identify mentor needs and recruit mentors with the necessary skills and interests.

Match mentors with youth members based on interests, needs, and personality.

Gather information about volunteers’ skills, availability and goals; match volunteers with appropriate opportunities.

Conduct mentor check-ins to ensure satisfaction and retention.

Communicate with program staff to assess quality of matches and, when necessary, rematch participants to ensure successful completion.

Maintain accurate records of participant information and statuses.

Assist with program evaluation efforts.

Engage with best-practices partner organizations including The Clubhouse Network, Best Buy, and MENTOR Virginia, attending meetings, sharing ideas and issues and supporting collaborative projects.

Organize recognition and appreciation events.

Continuously evaluate and improve the mentoring program

SKILLS REQUIRED

Key Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including getting along with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of community resources and organizations.

Understanding youth development principles and best practices.

Proficiency with Google Workspace
